Dal Lake

This is a major sightseeing tourist attraction in Srinagar. Dal Lake is synonymous with Kashmir and is the second largest lake in the state. This beautiful lake is also known as the ‘Jewel in the Crown of Kashmir’ and is an important location for commercial activities like tourism, fishing and water plant harvesting. The lake is surrounded by lovely gardens like Shalimar Baghand Nishat Bagh. You can also take a shikara or a gondola ride in the lake. In July, the lake is dotted with floating Lotus flowers. There are several houseboats in the lake which provide lodging to the tourists which is an experience of a lifetime.

Nigeen Lake

A haven for nature lovers, Nigeen Lake (also spelled as Nagin Lake) is a popular tourist place to visit in Srinagar. Nishat Garden

Popularly known as the ‘Garden of Bliss’, the Nishat Garden or Nishat Bagh, is the second-largest Mughal Garden in Kashmir Valley, after Shalimar Bagh and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Srinagar.
The beautiful garden is on the eastern side of the picturesque Dal Lake and is situated against the backdrop of the magnificent Zabarwan Mountains. This surreal garden is a place of sheer delight for nature lovers, family vacationers as well as romantic couples as it offers them spectacular views and a memorable experience. Nishat Bagh was designed by Asaf Khan, the elder brother of Nur Jahan, in 1633 AD. It is believed that Emperor Shah Jahan on witnessing the grandeur and beauty of the Nishat Bagh, was so impressed and awestruck that he expressed his gratitude to Asaf Khan three times

Shalimar Garden in Srinagar, Kashmir

Shalimar Garden

Set on the shores of the pristine Dal Lake, the Shalimar Bagh is the largest Mughal Garden in Kashmir valley and thus is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Srinagar. Covering an area of 31 acres, this garden once served as the favourite summer destination of Emperor Jahangir and his court. This beautiful masterpiece also popularly known as the 'house of love' was originally called ‘Farah Baksh’, which literally translates to 'delightful'. Encircled by tall trees of Chinar and many colourful flowers, the Shalimar Bagh presents tourists with a serene environment. It also boasts a beautifully designed canal that runs through the center of the garden, further enhancing its charm. The main attractions of the Shalimar Bagh are the 'Chini Khanas'. Oil lamps were lighted at night at these 'Chini Khanas' which created a dazzling sight. In present times, however, these 'khanas' are adorned with flower pots which are also visually delightful.

Chashme Shahi Garden

Primarily famous for its natural spring, Chashme Shahi Garden is part of the Mughal Gardens, and is a must-see in Srinagar. The natural spring in this top attraction in Srinagar catches the eyes of the tourists. Believed to have been discovered by great female saint of Kashmir, Rupa Bhawani, the spring got its name from her clan and was originally called 'Chashme Sahibi'.
Tourists visit this attraction in Srinagar to drink the water from the spring which is believed to have medicinal properties. It is to be noted, even in the peak summer season, the water from the spring is always cold.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Kashmir

Tulip Garden

Dubbed the largest tulip garden in Asia, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is one of the must-visit places in Srinagar that sits at the foothills of Zabarwan Mountain. A seven-terraced garden is known for its 48 varieties of tulip flowers which not only interest the adult members of the family but the kids too.
The garden also has several types of other flowers like daffodils, hyacinths, roses, narcissus and other ornamental plants. Hazratbal Shrine

Known as the holiest shrine in Kashmir, Hazratbal is where a hair strand Prophet MohammedPBUH is preserved. The hair is also called ‘the relic’ or the Moi-e-Muqaddas. The word Hazrat means holy/respected and Bal stands for place, thus the words when put together mean a ‘holy place’ or a ‘respected place’. Tourists in general find Hazratbal Shrine as an important site to see in Srinagar, whereas Muslim devotees from across the country make sure to visit this sacred shrine once in their lifetime.
The sacred hair of the Prophet is displayed to public on certain occasions like e the birthday of Prophet MuhammadPBUH and his four main companions, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique, Hazrat Umar ibn Khattab, Hazrat Usman ibn Affan and Hazrat Ali. Such occasions are attended by many devotees and tourists from all around the country.

Shankarcharya Temple in Srinagar, Kashmir

Shankarcharya Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Shankarcharya Temple is amongst the top religious attractions in Srinagar. It is named after the great philosopher Shankarcharya, who once visited Kashmir. The Hindu temple enjoys a strategic location from where devotees and tourists can see a panoramic view of Srinagar City.
The temple which is also known as Jyeshteshwara Temple, is accessible by a staircase of 243 steps and is visited by a large number of Hindu devotees during the Amarnath Yatra season.

Pari Mahal

Nestled in the Zabarwan Mountain, Pari Mahal is amongst the top tourist places to visit in Srinagar. Once the resident of Dara Shikoh, the Mughal Prince in 1600s, Pari Mahal or the Abode of Fairies is adorned with a seven-terraced garden that has a variety of flowering plants, trees, and shrubs for the visitors to see.
The palace that was built to be used as a residence and a library for Dara Shikoh was further used as an observatory to teach astronomy and astrology. In the night, the entire mahal gleams with light and its reflection can be seen on Dal Lake. Dara Sikoh is said to have dedicated this garden to his Sufi teacher, Mullah Shah.
